I got about 12 books as Christmas gifts and I am completely embarrassed to say that while I have started three of them, I have completed none as of yet.
I am happy to report though that with this past weekend's very nice weather, I got some well-deserved and much needed reading time. I picked up "The Lovely Bones" by Alice Seybold.
I know that a lot of people have already read this but somehow I missed it. As a rule, I cannot stand flashbacks. I hate it when its done in a movie and I am usually even more against it in a book - it somehow loses the continuity for me. This book on the other had has (at a quarter of the way through) made flashbacks and out of body visions tolerable and dare I say, almost pleasant.
As I read the first chapter, I was taken aback that I was already privy to the murderer's identity. This fact initially shocked me as much as the murder itself, which in and of itself is gruesome and disturbing. However the author has enabled me in the next couple of chapters to forgive that I already know who the killer is and to focus on the story she is masterfully crafting.
I wonder if I will continue to be pleased - stay tuned.
